One in three women is sexually abused before the age of 18. Research also shows that in 8 out of 10 sexual assaults or rapes the abuser is a friend, family member, or acquaintance of the victim. The cases we’ll hear about today are shocking, but unfortunately, they are more common than we think. Our guests are coming forward today to help other victims of abuse and to shed some of the shame from the abuse they endured. As a child, Christine experienced the ultimate betrayal by her mother. Not only did her mother Barbara "gift" her daughter to her boyfriend for his birthday and allowed him to have sex with 7-year-old Christine, she then participated in the abuse herself. In her own first-person account of the abuse, Barbara shares her story from behind bars. Christine is also here with her adoptive mother, Diana who fears that if Christine doesn't get help, she will follow a destructive path and allow her abuse to ruin her life. Christina Barone, who was molested by her own father, who then also abused her daughter, will be here to share how she healed from her abuse and to encourage Christine to get the help she desperately needs. Latonsha survived years of incest at the hands of her father and gave birth to his child at age 13. We'll hear how Latonsha, who has won a conviction against her father in court for the abuse, feels about him today. Montel also has a surprise videotaped message from Latonsha's mother, who stood by all those years ago and allowed the abuse to happen. Will Latonsha want to watch the tape to see what her mother has to say? Psychotherapist Donna Leblanc will share her insights into how mothers sometimes enable abuse and turn a blind eye to abuse going on in their own homes.
